Sliding sunroof kits (ragtops or folding canvas sunroofs) have been around for decades, none more popular than the Sunway by Weathershield of England. These sliding ragtops later morphed into the better know Britax brand and underwent a “modernization".
Today, these brands are long gone. Always popular in Europe, sliding ragtops (or folding sunroofs) found their way to the North American market in huge numbers in the early 1970’s when they were installed with the blessings of vehicle manufacturers into cars by AMC, Chrysler, Dodge, Studebaker and General Motors. Models included the Nova Skyroof or Skytop and the Buick Skylark Suncoupe.
Several years back, we unearthed a cache of original kits in original boxes and still have a few left. Sunway, (aka Britax and Weathershield) sliding ragtops (folding sunroofs) are in stock in two sizes. The largest was their part number “3636" which represented the size of the hole in your roof required for installation.
Note: we have seen ‘70’s cars with four different sizes of folding canvas sunroofs or vinyl sunroofs so far and even some with a German “Golde" sliding ragtop sunroof installed, most popularly used in Volkswagens. The Sunway 3636 ragtop requires a hole size of 36" x 36" and when closed and latched measures close to 40" x 40".
If you are restoring an original muscle car like a Nova Skytop or vintage vehicle that came with a “stock" sliding ragtop installed or folding sunroof installed, we might have the parts you need to complete the project. If you need a complete kit, as mentioned, we have a few left complete and in original boxes.
