(e) Cutting Roof Aperture
Details
Drill 3/8” dia. hole approximately 2” inside aperture line. Use 1. 5/8” square hole cutter for removing material to enable electric shears to enter. When cutting aperture keep well inside the mark lines then re-cut to lines leaving generous radius in corners. This will prevent roof from waving, corners can be trimmed out with snips again leaving a radius at corner. Clean around aperture with a file to remove all frayze

Fitting of Strengthening stiffener
Details
Front stiffener has a cut-out that is off centre to centre line of car. (see fig. 10). Stiffeners must be formed to roof panel contour and when fitted must bear against the inner face of the front and rear aperture edge (see fig. 5, 6 & 7). Over their complete length, tape surface of stiffener that goes to roof panel to prevent metal from squeaking. Clamp stiffeners parallel with aperture using clamp brace (see fig. 4). The clamps should be tightened to give slightly more than the original sweep, stiffeners should then be riveted at cant rails first. Remove clamps allowing roof to drop to its original form and then drill through and rivet stiffeners to roof aperture. Drill (4) 5/16” dia. holes at rear (see fig. 2.).
